About the Journal

Homiletic is a scholarly forum in homiletics and a review of publications in religious communication. It is a freely accessible, peer-reviewed journal.

Homiletic is sponsored by the Academy of Homiletics. 

Academy of Homiletics Statement of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (Approved at the Annual Business Meeting of the AoH in 2024)

Since its founding in 1965, the Academy of Homiletics has grown to be an ecumenical, global, and increasingly diverse body. As part of our continued growth and commitment to scholarship and teaching in homiletics, this guild values scholarship, membership, and organizational practices that foster diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).  As a guild, we seek to create an institutional culture that intentionally welcomes, appreciates, respects, and celebrates differences in things that include, but are not limited to, language, race, ethnicity, culture, color, gender and gender fluidity, sexuality, disability, age, national origin, and theology.

This commitment deepens our scholarship and welcomes the respectful contributions of all our members. The Academy of Homiletics confronts scholarship or practices that exclude or deny the inherent worth and dignity of anyone, particularly underrepresented and minoritized perspectives and people. Similarly, we attend to power, status, and privilege in ways that promote equity. The witness of both the Hebrew Scriptures and New Testament testifies to a God who delights in the diversity of the world and calls everyone to expand who we recognize as neighbor in the human and other-than-human family.

In our organizational practices, we commit to transparency and honesty, recognizing that these values help create an inclusive environment that supports mutual flourishing.

For articles: All articles published in Homiletic are the exclusive property of the Journal. All copyright rights to the article shall be owned by and be in the name of the Academy of Homiletics. The Academy of Homiletics in turn grants all authors the right to reprint their articles in any format that they choose, without the payment of royalties, subject to giving proper credit to the original publication with Homiletic. The Academy of Homiletics also permits articles to be copied for non-profit educational use provided proper credit is given to Homiletic. Authors may self-archive their articles in an institutional repository or other online location, provided proper credit is given to Homiletic.

For book reviews: All reviews commissioned by Homiletic are the exclusive property of the Journal. Reviews are considered a work made-for-hire, and, as such, all copyright rights to the review shall be owned by and be in the name of the Academy of Homiletics. The Academy of Homiletics in turn grants all review authors the right to reprint their reviews in any format that they choose, without the payment of royalties, subject to giving proper credit to the original publication with Homiletic.
